Important Limitations To Obtain SSI Benefits

Since SSI is a needs-based program, there are income limitations that apply. For example:

• If an individual has more than $2,000 in assets
• If a couple has more than $3,000 in assets
• A household income limit is in place for SSD and SSI

In terms of assets, a dollar-for-dollar reduction in benefits could apply. However, some assets do not count toward that limit, including a vehicle and a house. In terms of household income, I can go over that amount when you come to my office for a free consultation and discuss other aspects regarding Social Security Disability benefits.
